11) The Chieftains

The Chieftains.

As well as Riverdance, I spent much of my time listening to “The Chieftains”

The Chieftains are “a Grammy winning Irish musical group founded in 1962.”  They are known for performing and “popularising” Irish Traditional music.

They have performed with many artists including:  Van Morrison, The Rolling Stones and Sinead O'Connor.

Their most famous piece is "Women of Ireland"
Although this isn't an Irish Jig, I listened to this piece to determine which instruments were usually used in their music.  I also think this piece reveals perfectly, the beauty and calmness of Ireland.

Although the sound of The Chieftains has developed and the personnel has undergone changes, the quality of playing, the style and the entertainment value are still there.
